The Beginners Guide to Meditation
meditation
Meditation, as we know has many benefits. Though often overcomplicated the advice we give is to start small, to start simply; and to most of all realise it is an innate part of the integral intelligence you encompass by simply being alive. Its a natural part of you; taking this in see if it allows you to drop in more easefully.
Start with 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes in the evening: these are important and essential markers of the day - creating that space will allow you to a) in the morning start the day intentionally and b) in the evening to release the day thats been, integrate it and move forward. Taking note of what worked and what did not in a logical manner, while also taking time to feel your feelings, your mood and state of your body and being - so often our body is communicating with us far more than we may realise.
Set up your space, with a candle or a cushion, or sit outside directly on the earth. Move your phone away and turn off notifications - you can set an alarm if you need. Take a seat, find a long spine, and close your eyes. As you move into your inner environment allow yourself to glance over your body and your being noticing how it feels from the inside out. After a few moments of connecting in like this, find a long spine; allow your tailbone to draw down to the earth and the crown of your head to reach towards the sky. Allow your shoulders to melt down your back, your heart to lift and your breath to flow easefully. Breathe in and out of your nose if you can, continuing and drawing the breath up and down the spine. Visualising this breath clearing the channels of your body and opening you to deeper states of consciousness; allowing for open communication to flow through your body, mind and being.
Want to dive in deeper? Check out our course on teachable called The Well Within which guides you through simple meditative practices as well as how to access deeper states both within your being and the external world around you.
Meditation is more about maintaining clarity than it is dong anything that is more complex; simply taking time to sit and breathe allows space for us to both gather and digest our thoughts as well as to open up to broader states of awareness, our visions and even guidance.
